Outdoor Tech Helmet Audio Kits

December 5, 2016 by Richard Roberts Leave a Comment

We are excited to carry the new Outdoor Tech Helmet Audio Kits. These fit great in the our Salomon Hacker Helmet series. You can choose between the wired kits or the new bluetooth wireless kits. Both are hands free and will play great sounding music as well as answer your phone when needed. The Bluetooth kit also comes with a walkie talkie so you can talk with those friends or family on the mountain (or anyone else you meet).

In addition, for helmets that are not audio compatible such as our Salomon Hacker helmets, you can get the new K-Roo pouch that converts the helmet so it will accept one of the two kits above. Nothing like tunes while you ride!

You can check them out on our website under the helmet/goggles section.

Using Snowboard Bindings with Skiboards – Do they Perform?

November 30, 2016 by Richard Roberts Leave a Comment

We get a lot of questions on using snowboard bindings with skiboards – do they perform? How do snowboard bindings compare to ski boot bindings in terms of performance? When customers are using their own snowboard bindings, the edging control can be less than desirable which is why we created the Snowboard Bindings Adaptor Kit. This kit adds great retention and includes the Summit Snowboard Binding Riser Kit which is absolutely essential for proper height so snowboard bindings don’t catch on the ground when carving.

The better option is to use our Technine Custom Pro Snowboard Bindings or the even higher performance

Technine Custom Pro DS Snowboard Bindings Skiboards
Technine Custom Pro DS Snowboard Bindings for Skiboards

Technine Custom Pro DS Snowboard Bindings. These both include the Summit Snowboard Binding Riser Kit. These bindings were created by us to deliver the performance required for aggressive skiboarding. Three padded buckles for retention and with the Custom Pro DS, a partial wrap around cuff at the top for even more retention as well as a stiffer construction.

To answer the question then, the Technine Snowboard Bindings do rival the performance of Ski boot bindings. Drawbacks are that these don’t release upon falling and they take a little more time to put on and off. Other than that you do get the comfort of using snowboard boots. Aside from that it becomes a matter of personal preference – some like the option of ski release bindings and using ski boots, especially comfortable ones like the Alpina XTrack 70 boots.

Summit Skiboards CRZ 106 cm Rocker – Personal Review

October 5, 2016 by Richard Roberts Leave a Comment

Product Test: Summit Skiboards CRZ 106 cm Rocker – Personal Review. These Summit Skiboards were mounted with Salomon L10 Release Bindings. Having not ridden these before production I had some trepidation about whether these would perform as we had designed them. It was at Wolf Creek, a powder day with 10″ fresh on top of a 4 foot base, that I got to ride them for the first time.

Snapped in, grabbed the lift and there I was at the top ready to ride down.

Initially, as with any new skiboards, it took just a little getting used to the length, sweet spots and conditions. Didn’t take long (actually about 50 feet) and here was my experience:

OMG! These are so smooth and just handle powder so effortlessly without leaning back. They are also fast turning due to rockered tips. I was truly impressed with how easily they turned, how smooth a ride on the long groomed and in moguls, in short a delight to ride. Super quick, yet quick turning, I was so happy to ride these new skiboards. I was also relieved that all our design work paid off. If you want something that turns on a dime, rides powder with ease, flies down the groomed runs with such a smoothness and stability and will tackle anything on the mountain, these are a amazing choice.

Life Lessons from my Zen Dog

September 5, 2016 by Richard Roberts Leave a Comment

Lesson One – Take time to smell the poop!

One day as I was hiking with my dog, I found myself tuning in to my dog and what he was doing. I began to understand that in many ways my dog is teaching me about life.

Lesson 1: Stop and smell the poop. Enough said! (Just kidding).

My dog (as most dogs) is obsessed with smells. He runs between smells, stopping for the next pile of poop. I got to thinking that he is (disgustingly to us) breathing in life and its many varied smells and experiences.

Translated: If you aren’t stopping to truly breathe in life regularly, you’re missing out. What are you doing instead? If you’re like most people, you’re rushing from one thing you need to do to another, one thought to another, but always ahead of yourself. It’s actually the gift that skiboards gave me – true enjoyment, in the moment, breaking me out of the usual, the often unconscious ski paradigm. As you are flying down the mountain, you don’t have time to be in your head, but instead are experiencing the moment. The result – feeling more fully alive.

Motto of the story: Take time to smell the poop along the road of life, i.e.  take the time, not just when skiboarding, but in daily life, to just stop to feel alive in the moment. Breathe life in, feel it all. It’s no different on the slopes. Enjoy, truly enjoy, right in this very moment. Be alive instead of waiting for someday to be alive. Take time to feel grateful, to feel alive, and actually be here. If not now, when?

Are You Happy?

September 5, 2016 by Richard Roberts Leave a Comment

Is it possible to be happy all the time? Ever wondered about that. This actually occupies the attention of the majority of the human race, whether they realize it or not. Ever planned something expecting deep down that it would make you happy? Or finally completed a project knowing that life would be just a bit better?

I watch my dog ( I am not avoiding the question) and he is just happy. He is present, breathing in life. Check this photo I captured of him in the Colorado mountains:

If you look close you will see his eyes closed smelling the flowers. Being happy means taking the time to just enjoy being alive and in the present moment. It requires nothing more of us then to just stop, notice and appreciate life in whatever way you can.

To be happy is quite easy – just decide no matter what – when you catch yourself not being happy, STOP, focus to what does make you happy. Neuro-physiologically speaking this is what is referred to as neuro plasticity – rewiring your brain to create a new habit. In this case, you decide you want to be happy.

After all, how do you really no that if that promotion, new car, vacation will finally make you happy. It won’t unless you make the decision to be happy, no matter what. Why? Simply because you deserve to be happy and it is just a habit of attention. Putting it off reinforces the old habit of “I’ll be happy when” and it never really happens.

Take the teaching of my dog and take time as often as possible, even when something bad is happening to choose to be happy even in the midst of that and you will begin to create the long term habit of being truly happy (independent of outside circumstances). In the words of Bob Marley – “Don’t worry, Be Happy”.
