In 1926, at the age of 28, Philipp M. Winter founded the "Optische Fabrik
Philipp M. Winter" in his home town of Fürth, Germany. It was to be the
beginning of yet another chapter in the town's illustrious history of
master spectacle makers.
From the very beginning the company specialized in "Protective Eyewear of
Every Kind". And, as time went by, glasses and goggles were developed for
workers, automobile and motorcycle drivers, pilots, mountain climbers and
skiers.
It wasn't until the 50's, however, that UVEX sunglasses became
internationally recognized for their superb exclusion of ultraviolet rays
(uv-ex). In 1959 the company was incorporated as the Winter Optik GmbH.
Today, UVEX Winter Optik is a multi-national company producing safety and
sports products under the UVEX, Alpina, and Filtral brands.
